IGP Condemns Attack on Police Officer, Vows Swift Action

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, Ph.D., visited the National Trauma Centre, National Hospital in Abuja on September 28, 2023, to assess the condition of Police Inspector Omeje Matthew, who was brutally attacked by armed hoodlums at his Kabusa residence.

IGP Egbetokun strongly condemned the attack, stating that any assault on a police officer, whether on or off-duty, is an attack on the entire law enforcement community and society's peace and security. He warned that such attacks would not be tolerated, and the perpetrators would face the full extent of the law.

In response to the incident, the IGP directed the FCT Commissioner of Police to initiate a thorough investigation to swiftly apprehend and bring the culprits to justice. He also urged other Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders to ensure the resolution of pending investigations into attacks on police officers within their jurisdictions.

IGP Egbetokun extended his heartfelt wishes for the speedy recovery of Inspector Omeje Matthew and others in similar situations. He assured them and their families of the Nigeria Police Force's full support and assistance and called on the public to cooperate by providing information to aid in the case's swift resolution.
